Job opportunities
- GENERAL
- POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Several positions for highly qualified PhD-Students will be available under the auspices of the Special Research Programme SFB35 “Transmembrane in Health and Disease” starting in Spring 2012. The positions will be located in different departments and institutes and supervised by SFB35 group leaders.
SFB35 “Transmembrane in Health and Disease” has been granted another period by the Austrian Science Fund/FWF. SFB35 has been established to understand the role of neurotransmitter and ATP-binding cassette transporters in various aspects of health and disease. We aim to translate insights from the basic sciences to the clinical sciences and want to elucidate the involved molecular mechanisms. Likewise, we want to connect clinical observations with the underlying molecular basis. Hence, we are seeking highly motivated coworkers interested in all aspects of translational, interdisciplinary science.
General Requirements: Candidates (f/m) must have an excellent track-record and a strong experimental background. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, copies of certificates, details of research experience, 2 - 3 letters of recommendation with email addresses, research interests (1 page), all in a single pdf-file.
The positions are limited for 3 years with the possibility of extension; application starts now and ends with the 1st of March. Individuals will be approached and contacted as appropriate.

- SPECIAL OFFERS
- NEUROSCIENCE POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
Starting February 2012 a position for a highly qualified postdoctoral fellow is available in the Department of Neurophysiology and Neuropharmacology at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, under the supervision of Dr. Daniela Pollak.
Within the framework of a collaborative special research program on “transmembrane transporters” funded by the Austrian Science Fund, the focus of the projects is on understanding the role of neurotransmitter transporters in mouse models of psychiatric disorders, in particular depression, with emphasis on understanding the molecular mechanisms involved.
Requirements: Candidates (m/f) must have a PhD or MD/PhD degree in neuroscience or a related discipline with excellent track-record and a strong experimental background in molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry. Experience in working with rodents and/or in performing behavioral analysis is preferred but not essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
Applications should include cover letter, CV, copies of diploma/PhD certificates, details of previous research experience, 3 letters of recommendation with email addresses, research interests (~1 page) in a single PDF-File.
The position is limited for 3 years with the possibility of extension.
Qualified candidates should send their application by email to: daniela.pollak@meduniwien.ac.at
- PhD POSITION: ABC transporters as drug targets
A PhD position is available immediately at the Institute of Medical Chemistry, Medical University of Vienna. The FWF funded project studies the interaction of small molecules with human ABC-transporters and their potential application in the treatment of diseases associated with aberrant protein folding (www.sfb35.at, project part 3509). Applicants must hold an MSc degree with a strong background in molecular biology. We are looking for highly motivated candidates of all nationalities who have a keen interest in our research topic. We offer a multidisciplinary research environment within the framework of a collaborative special research program focused on membrane transporters. In order to take advantage of this environment we expect and encourage an explorative attitude and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Applicants should have a strong experimental background in molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry. Experience with mass spectrometry is preferred, but not essential. The position will receive funding from the Austrian Science Fund for a period of 3 years. The Institute of Medical Chemistry is located in vicinity of the historic center of Vienna and the teaching hospital of the Medical University of Vienna.
Applications containing a cover letter detailing research experience and motivation, CV, copies of certificates and contact details of two referees should be sent to: peter.chiba@meduniwien.ac.atas a single pdf-file.
